Is Nuclear Power Worth Investing In?

For the last ten years, most media outlets have paid a great deal of attention to the worldwide energy crisis and to global warming in particular. It is generally agreed that alternative energy sources will need to be developed to meet our ever expanding need for power. Possibilities include wind power, solar power, wave/tidal energy and biomass but while these technologies can make a contribution, it is unlikely that that existing alternative energy technology can provide enough energy to meet out needs.

Another possibility is nuclear power which is clean, efficient, reliable and relatively cheap. Despite the problems disposing of the dangerous waste produced, politicians seem to be ready to consider the use of nuclear power and might agree to a large scale construction program.

Many analysts have speculated that the worldwide nuclear energy market could grow substantially by 2030.

Does this mean nuclear energy is worth investing in?

In the U.S.A, the Department of Energy expects the amount of electricity needed to rise by 50% during the next twenty years. Worldwide electricity consumption is expected to double by 2030. Fossil fuel stocks are dwindling and the price oil continues to rise

It more than possible that there will be an increase in demand for nuclear power and this coincides with a weak amount of supply. Basic economics tells us that prices increase and decrease according to supply and demand.

Furthermore, as emerging economies in Asia develop over the next twenty years, the spike in demand for cheap, clean, reliable alternative energy sources could intensify and nuclear power is well placed.

Various private sector investment managers have recently described the structural shortage of power generation facilities in the developing world. Some countries are in the process of building large numbers of nuclear power stations and this will lift the demand for uranium.

Until recently, it has been very difficult for an ordinary investor to participate in the nuclear energy market because most investment opportunities were offshore. This has changed and there are now several options available:-

Three years ago, the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) launched its first futures contract for uranium. This allows investors to speculate on the future growth. Prices were high before the Global Credit Crisis in 2008 when uranium was trading at approximately $140 per pound. Recently it was approximately $40
Investors can invest in the potential growth in the price of uranium by investing in mining companies which often have a very low share price. Proper research should be carried out and if the company finds substantial deposits the share prices will rise significantly
Investors can invest in companies that have existing uranium operations such as BHP Billiton and Cameco which are both large companies and proven leaders in the field. Many smaller companies in countries with uranium deposits are good investment opportunities but shares would need to be purchased on a foreign exchange.
The currency of countries with uranium deposits should increase in price and Forex Brokers could give advice about whether this is a viable investment opportunity

Global Warming? Energy Crisis? No Way!

Australian Short Stories - (Mary) Valleys Senior Rugby League Team 1935

Before the 1939-45 war there were four football teams playing in the Gympie competition. One of these was Valleys, a team as the name suggests selected from the town ships of the Mary Valley.

My brothers Kev and Bert played, and as well as being captain of Valleys, Kev was captain of the Gympie representative team. Roads weren't crash hot back in the 1930's, there was no bitumen on the roads in the Valley and getting to the venue where the match was played was quite a chore.

Traffic on the road stirred up clouds of dust. It was almost impossible to pass a vehicle in front, as it was hard to see for dust, and if you followed too closely, you were smothered in the stuff.

One of the players, Frank Jocumsen had a cream run and picked up cream from farmers between Imbil and Gympie. The cream was delivered to the Gympie Butter factory on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays of each week. His truck was large for the times, about seven ton capacity with a canvas hood over the back to keep the cream cool. It was also a great way to transport the team to the playing venue on Sunday.

There was one snag, the back of the truck got splashed with cream, and by the end of the week, as may be imagined, was very smelly indeed. My role model Kev, volunteered me to clean the back of the truck, and every Saturday during football season Frank would bring it to the back of our house to have it cleaned. I was only seven or eight years old when I inherited the job and I can tell you it was no sinecure.

No hoses at the time, just many buckets of water, carried from the tank some distance away, soap and a broom, and some hard work. It was also my job to clean Kev's football boots and they weren't considered clean if you couldn't see your face in them.

All the Valley towns got behind their team and expected them to win every game. The interest and effort was so great that Jack Lutton who owned the sawmill in Imbil was reputed to have said production at his mill dropped considerably on Mondays and Fridays.

Fridays, because his employees, and there were several in the team; put in most of the day talking about how they would play Sunday's game, and after the game on Sunday they were too sore to work properly on Monday.

Tips For Growing Old Gracefully

Let's face it, growing old is not as bad as people seem to think it is. Sure we seem to be annoyed by everyday events in life a bit more than we used to and menu prices are increasingly outrageous forcing us to eat dinner in the afternoon, but does that mean we have to be miserable. Our skin fades in luster and develops wrinkles, and once they arrive they do not go away until it is all over. For many, this reality is alarming and many people become depressed as they age, especially when they have lost loved ones that are close to them. But just because our bodies are failing us, our skin is a wrinkled, spotted mess and our general disposition has deteriorated into that of our own parents does not mean that we need to be miserable. The author examines how a few simple steps can help us feel better about the aging process and take the necessary steps to grow old gracefully.

Experts agree that consumers who are aging, and struggling with the realities of growing old need to choose one or perhaps two aspects of their life that they wish to remain in control of. You cannot control each of the behaviors and changes to our bodies as we grow old, but that does not mean that we cannot control ANY of them. We just need to pick and choose. Many men and women choose to control the physical as best they can as some of the mental or emotional changes are often more difficult to recognize within yourself. By focusing on the physical changes, people can feel better about their appearance and therefore the aging process.

If choosing the physical body to control and maintain, this is a great way to keep your health, a sound physical appearance and have plenty of energy. But you must also consider the fact that ultimately you will not be able to control your body forever and your skin will eventually wrinkle and muscles eventually become flab, but hopefully not for a long time if you do things correctly. Creating a routine is important for all of us to be sure we stick to the habits we need to achieve the goals that we have.

If exercise is what is most important, be sure to be consistent. Getting together with friends to walk on the treadmill or on the beach with each other is a fantastic idea to help reinforce the behavior. But some of us will also choose to keep our skin looking its best as well, and while group activity works for exercise, it is less helpful when it comes to skin care. If skin care is your objective, it too can be easy to control, but you must take the time to be sure you are using the best products.

Wrinkle cream can be a helpful product. The best products use the best ingredients, plain and simple. The brands of wrinkle cream that are well known for providing the highest quality products are usually celebrated by winning awards and consumer reports praises for their superior results. Being sure you take the time to identify which of these products will reduce your wrinkles the most, eliminate puffiness and dark circles or lifts and firms the skin on your face and neck will allow you to purchase only the products that work and not waste money on those that don't.

Growing old may be a reality for each and every one of us, but that does not mean we must be a grumpy old mess about it. Take the time to identify which of the changes you are experiencing as you age, and decide to take control of one or two of them. Doing so, gives you a sense of accomplishment, renewed health and can even allow you to grow old gracefully.
